Agriculture is one of the most important sources of development, economic growth,
security and employment in Afghanistan. Water is an integral part of agriculture,
with irrigation accounting for over 95% of water consumption in the country
AREU researchers recently returned from conducting field research at a number of
river basins across the country for a project titled, "The Impacts of Water Sector
Reforms on Agriculture in Afghanistan."
The study and its subsequent outcomes will provide national policymakers with
recommendations based on feedback from relevant actors and findings from the field.
