Since its founding in 2002, AREU has been at the forefront of ground-breaking and timely research on Afghanistan. The think tank’s publications, which include issues papers, briefs, policy notes, have addressed the most pressing concerns when it comes to the development of Afghanistan from a social, economic, and political standpoint. AREU’s findings have impacted policy planning and implementation in Afghanistan. AREU’s researchers have traveled across the country too far off provinces to gather perspectives from local communities, which have contributed to research outputs that have been instrumental in shaping discourse on Afghanistan.

AREU’s publications not only inform policies but also the research conducted by students, academics, and independent researchers among many others. AREU has garnered international attention and led to the organization receiving awards and recognition as a leading think tank across many fields. Among the honors is being ranked as the top think in Afghanistan by the Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania for three years in a row (2017, 2018, and 2019).

AREU’s partnerships with independent researchers, scholars, academic institutions, think tanks, and consortiums are one of the primary reasons it succeeds in continuing to produce high-quality work. If you are interested in partnering with us on a research project or have a research proposal that falls within the purview of our thematic areas, we would love to hear from you.
