Letter from the AREU Board, 21/07/11

Dear AREU Partners and Supporters,

We would like to provide you with a brief update on developments at AREU and seek your help in identifying a new Director.

We are delighted to report that AREU’s cash flow situation is now positive and the organization is no longer facing financial shortfalls. Discussions with partners to support core and project expenditures are going well.

The strategic review of AREU will shortly be finalized, along with a time-bound implementation plan. This covers refinement of our research agenda; management reforms; including a process of strengthening Afghan research and management capacities; and an outreach and partnership strategy.

So we are now confident that AREU is again heading in the right direction and that we are well placed to contribute informed analysis to policy discussions and decisions at this critical moment in Afghanistan’s history.

The most important next step is the identification of the new Director. The post has been advertised through various methods. But I would be grateful if you can share the attached T.O.R. on your networks and with your contacts as soon as possible. This is a unique opportunity and we want to ensure that we find the right person.

Yours faithfully

Michael Keating
