Job Description:

The Communication Internship provides an opportunity for individuals pursuing a career in organizational communication and advocacy. The internship allows qualified candidate to gain practical experience and develop essential skills in management, planning and organizing, communicating, networking and public relations, processing professional information, managing and updating the organization’s database and social media platforms. As a Communication Intern, you will support the Communication Department in various office tasks, the AREUO library, and contribute to the overall communication functions within the organization. Your role will involve learning about communication processes, assisting with communication initiatives, and providing support to employees and management.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support Communications Department Team in implementation of joint activities, including supporting to draft and translate organizational documents, writing meeting minutes, and other correspondences.
  2. Assist with the content development for websites for AREUO, including contributing regularly to updating of AREUO website, social media accounts, and other digital and print media platforms.
  3. Assist in preparation and organization of events and campaigns, including providing logistical support as well as PR support in promoting events.
  4. Support in writing and editing communication materials, including materials, newsletters, and brushers, banners, and publications covers.
  5. Assist in development of occasional media monitoring reports as well as updating of the communication databases such as contact lists.
  6. Organize and update the communications filing system and assist in data entry, data management and data analysis, and perform information management quality and consistency control.
  7. Provide administrative and logistical support to the AREUO Communication Department and AREUO Executive Management Team EMT, including with organizing meetings, visits, and taking meeting notes.
  8. Provide typing and translations services in English as well as in Dari and Pashto languages when needed.
  9. Providing occasional support to other departments when needed in close consultation with supervisor and perform any other duties as required and as delegated by the direct supervisor.

Qualifications:

  1. Currently pursuing or recently graduate with a degree in Communications, Journalism, Business Administration, and or a related field.
  2. Basic understanding of communication and networking principles, policies, and practices.
  3. Good communication and interpersonal skills, active listener.
  4. Organizational and time management abilities.
  5. Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
  6. Proficient in MS Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  7. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  8. Enthusiastic, proactive, and a quick learner.
  9. Good speaking skills in Dari, Pashto and English.

Salary and Location

The salary for this position will be determined commensurate with qualifications, taking into consideration AREUO’s overall salary scale for internship programs.
